Time2Tanzania
Welcome to my blog!  It was hard to choose the title, since I'm usually all about alliteration. But as I don't know where I'm going it's hard to find the clever, appropriate name. And then I realized: one theme for my summer is to finally start writing. In earnest. And "By Myself But Not Alone" has been the working title for my writing- for years. So it's me and Natalie Goldberg and ShawnWithTheWind off for 10 weeks, beginning and ending in Dar es Salaam.

The Countdown
it seems I used to start at 10 weeks out. and the first time, it was probably 6 months in advance. but if today is april 23, then there is less than five weeks (duration) before I fly.
what have I done to get ready?  Replaced a comb. Bought a light, little inflatable globe. GOt the number of the travel clinic. Have outbound reservations and hotel. Have given thought to clothing and gear. But made no decisions. I expect to have a very short shopping list.
not much planning. cause it seems so routine.and I have a partner.

Well, tomorrow is the day.  In 24 hours I'll be on the way to the airport. I guess I will get all the packing done, since there is no more time to procrastinate.

I have mixed feelings about this embarkment. Uncertainty. Fears of illness. Questions about purpose. This, in many ways, is the biggest trip I've taken. Something about Africa. The unknown continent.

Part of me just wants to stay home and watch the garden grow. I think it's the anti-malarial malaise. Doxycycline is wearing me out, and it's only been three days since I started it. We'll see if I stick with it, or try Malarone.
